Barry Mann (born Barry Iberman on February 9, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American songwriter, and part of one of the most prolific songwriting partnerships in the world of rock music.
Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil met when they were both staff songwriters, they were married in 1961.
In 1961, they wrote and Mann sung a novelity song that made the Top 10 with "Who Put The Bomp", which parodied the nonsense words that were used in songs at that time.

Mann was soon writing songs, and his first success, "She Say (Oom Dooby Doom)," was recorded by the Diamonds and became a top twenty hit in 1959.

Their first success together was Tony Orlando's "Bless You" (1961), a simple but effective love song, which endeared them to their new employer, bubblegum genius Don Kirschner, who housed a wealth of songwriting talent in the cubicles of his Brill Building offices.
Mann himself still craved recognition as a performer and won a recording contract, but his album work, most notably the aptly titled Survivor failed to match the sales of his and his wife's much covered golden hits.
Mann and Weil wrote the original songs for the Muppet Treasure Island movie in 1996.

You may never have heard of them as songwriters, but the minute Mann strikes up one of their melodies you recognize it instantly, often from a recording by a top vocal artist of the past two generations.
Sometimes Mann used lyrics by writers other than Weil, and sometimes Weil wrote lyrics for composers other than Mann, but they were held together by the bonds of marriage and what Weil calls "our finest collaboration," a daughter, Jenn Berman, who is a noted psychotherapist and TV personality.
Weil mentions a number of times that Mann aspired to be a singer-songwriter with something to say, an achievement that can't be denied.
