Barry McGuire - Eve Of Destruction
Barry McGuire's first career phase, as a leading light of the '60's Californian folk-rock scene, is often better known than the second; after his conversion in 1971, McGuire became one of American CCM's early "stars", and this CD collects together 20 tracks from his lengthy Christian recording career.
Few Christian singers have a more recognizable voice than McGuire, and his growling delivery suits songs as diverse as the gentle "Love Is", the infectious "Happy Road" and the surprisingly incisive "Don't Blame God".
The material betrays its roots in the 70's Jesus Music movement, and the CD may appeal most to listeners with a background in that field; however this makes a fine introduction to an artist still going strong in the States, albeit now involved as much in the secular music scene as the CCM arena.
