Mills said a key component to attracting diversity is generous financial aid for students from across the country.
As Mills prepares for his career change – he starts his new job at Bowdoin College on July 1 – he and his wife, Karen Gordon Mills, are excited about the prospect of raising their three sons in Brunswick, where they will be permanent residents beginning this summer.
Mills said he expects his youngest son to attend Brunswick's public elementary school system, but is undecided whether to continue here in Maine the two older boys' privat- school experience.

Barry Mills is the president of Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, a position he has held since 2001.
Mills, who was born in Providence, Rhode Island, is a 1972 Bowdoin graduate and holds a Ph.D. in biology from Syracuse University (1976) and a J.D. from Columbia Law School (1979).
Prior to assuming the Bowdoin College presidency, Mills was a partner at the Manhattan law firm Debevoise and Plimpton.
