Dave Barry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Barry was born in Armonk, New York, where his father, David Barry, Sr., was a Presbyterian minister.
Barry's initial meeting and courtship with Michelle were, however, widely thought to have been dramatized in an epilogue to his novel Dave Barry in Cyberspace, but with names changed: Barry is cast as 'RayAdverb' (an anagram of 'Dave Barry'), and Michelle is represented as 'MsPtato'.
Barry has defined a sense of humor as "a measurement of the extent to which we realize that we are trapped in a world almost totally devoid of reason.

In fact, Men in Black opens with titles that are strikingly similar to Sonnenfeld's earlier film, as well as a jaunty soundtrack by Danny Elfman and an appearance by Carel Struycken (Addams' Lurch) as an alien, making it briefly feel like some sort of weird Addams offshoot.
Sonnenfeld has created a series of alien gags that work 90% of the time; strung together like washing on a backyard clothesline, the film hops from joke to joke, enormously fueled by the obvious comedic synergy between its two leads.
The pairing of Jones and Smith is one of the better duos to come out of Hollywood in some time, with Smith's wide-eyed amazement at the new and strange sights he encounters as an MIB deftly ricocheting off of Jones' craggy-faced, been-there-done-that stoicism.

Big Trouble | movies : ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
Director Barry Sonnenfeld exults in comedies built on inevitable calamity: In hits like ''Get Shorty,'' ''Men in Black,'' and ''The Addams Family,'' he excels at steering larger-than-life characters through increasingly extreme situations chilled to the temperature of matter-of-factness by his Hollywood cool.
The story, based on Barry's 1999 novel of the same name and adapted (with some made-for-the-movies coarseness) by screenwriters Robert Ramsey and Matthew Stone, is about a divorced Miami newspaper columnist trying to relate to his sullen teenage son.
Barry's point, I think, is that it's hard to be a family, but worth the trouble.
