The primary setting of Earthdawn is Barsaive, a former province of the Theran Empire.
Barsaive is a region of city-states, independent from the Therans since the dwarven Kingdom of Throal led a rebellion against their former overlords.
The Theran presence in Barsaive has been limited to a small part of south-western Barsaive, based around the magical fortress of Sky Point.

Barsaive Box Set is a nice though often underestimated overview.
The best you are going to find is the little book out of the Barsaive box set- but that is not terribly great and only gives you a general overview- nothing in-depth.
The Barsaive boxed set has a decent general overview, but really if you're looking for the best "overall" view of Barsaive, I would recommend the Serpent River sourcebook -- it runs from one corner of the province to the other.

As per the Barsaive sourcebook, the Invae are clearly confirmed to be the Insect Spirits from SR.
In the ED rules, in the history of Barsaive section, descriptions given of the Signs of the Scourge describe mist-like wraith beings driving men to violence against one another, which matches exactly the description and powers of the SR Wraith.
Thera is said to lay far to the southwest of Barsaive in the Selestrean Sea, which is an obvious match to the Barsaive map being in Russia if Thera is Atlantis, located at the real-world Thera in the Aegean Sea.

The adventure epic Barsaive in Chaos continues with adventures set a year after the end of the War.
The Barsaive boxed set is probably still a good idea for a purchase, though we did try to cover much of the information in it in our Barsaive chapter in the ED2 rulebook.
Most of the material of Magic: Manual of Mystic secrets and Arcane Mysteries of Barsaive are reprinted in the ED2 rulebook and the Second edition companion, so IMO they aren't that essential anymore.

The book consists of two parts -- a document penned by the Great Dragon Vasdenjas (familiar to ED fans for his other book, Creatures of Barsaive) about the life-cycle, culture, and traditions of dragon-kind, including secrets about the hydras, wyverns, and other related dragon-kin.
It reveals many things that previously had only been hinted at, but still leaves plenty of room for an Earthdawn GM to modify and tweak to suit his needs.

Not to transfer Earthdawn to D20 but to allow you to use the D20 rules (kind of) to experience the wonderful world of Barsaive, enjoy it.
This translation has come about from a love of the world of Barsaive and a lack of finding players that love the Earthdawn system.
