When the roofer-apprentice Bartholomaeus Schinkel, "Barthel", was 16 years old, the street named still Hüttenstrasse.
Schink, his pals and seven adults were arrested after a crackdown, the oldest was 57 years old.
Since June his office gallery is hosting a document, which distinguishes Schink and his three friends as Resistance-Fighters.

During the war, an anti-Nazi youth gang was active, the Edelweisspiraten.
On the 10th of November 1944, six boys, 16 years of age, were hanged in public, amongst them Bartholomäus Schink, called Barthel.
Bookseller Gerhard Ludwig, who worked for the influential publishers Neven du Mont in 1941, when he got into trouble with the Gestapo for political reason, was dismissed immediately.

On October 25, 1944, Heinrich Himmler ordered a crackdown on the group, and in November of that year, a group of thirteen people, the heads of the Ehrenfelder Gruppe, were publicly hanged in Cologne, some of them former Edelweiß Pirates.
Six boys, 16 years of age, were hanged in public, amongst them Bartholomäus Schink, called Barthel, former member of the local "Navajos." Fritz Theilen survived.
Nevertheless, government repression never managed to break the spirit of most groups, which constituted a subculture that rejected the norms of Nazi society.

He was among the thirteen members of that group who were publicly hanged in Cologne by the Gestapo on 10 November 1944.
A street in Ehrenfeld, next to the Ehrenfeld S-bahn station, is named after Schink.

Bartholomäus (Barthel) Schink (November 27 1927 - November 10 1944) was one of the members of the Ehrenfelder Gruppe (Ehrenfeld Group - Ehrenfeld is a suburb of Cologne) in Cologne.
He and twelve other members of that group were publicly hanged in Cologne by the Gestapo on 10th November 1944 because they had killed five people and planned an attack on the Cologne Gestapo headquarters (the "EL-DE-Haus").
