Bartholomew County is a county located in the state of Indiana, and determined by the U.S. Census Bureau to include the mean center of U.S. population in 1900.
The racial makeup of the county is 94.17% White, 1.83% Black or African American, 0.15% Native American, 1.90% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.96% from other races, and 0.95% from two or more races.
In the county the population is spread out with 26.50% under the age of 18, 7.70% from 18 to 24, 29.70% from 25 to 44, 24.00% from 45 to 64, and 12.10% who are 65 years of age or older.

When Indiana was admitted to statehood, in 1816, the area which was to become Bartholomew County was in the possession of the Delaware Indians who had relocated to this area, from eastern Ohio, late in the 18th century.
Rock Creek Township is located in the southeastern corner of Bartholomew county, with Decatur County to the east and Jennings County at its southern boundary.
Wayne Township is located in southern Bartholomew county, with the East Fork of the White River as its eastern boundary, and Jackson County at its southern boundary.

 Early Days in Bartholomew County, Indiana
It was said in Bartholomew County that he could "walk from the Flatrock to the Driftwood without stepping off his land" and a map of his holdings shows this to be true.
When the county was organized in 1821 he was elected one of two associate judges and he held the office for three terms.
The county was wet and consequently there was much malarial sickness, so much so, that I concluded to leave for a more healthy locations, and accordingly I moved agin into woods in the southwest corner of Shelby county.

Bartholomew County was organized by legislative act January 8, 1821, which became effective February 12, 1821, it was named for General Joseph Bartholomew, a distinguished citizen of Clark County, Senator in the State Legislature from 1821 to 1824 and a hero at the Battle of Tippecanoe.
Bartholomew County is bounded north by the township line which separates townships ten and eleven, dividing it from Shelby and Johnson counties, east by Decatur and Jennings counties, south by Jennings and Jackson, and west by Brown County.
John Tipton, later United States Senator from Indiana, was connected in an interesting way with the founding of the County Seat at Columbus.
