 Argentina - History
Bartolomé Mitre (president from 1862 to 1868) made an alliance with Pedro II, Emperor of Brazil, and Venancio Flores, president of Uruguay, to wage the ‘War of the Triple Alliance’ on Paraguay.
Despite being re-elected by a margin of two to one in 1928, Irigoyen was unable to ride the consequences of the world economic crisis of 1929, which drastically undermined the agro-exporter model.
The coup marked the end of a period of constitutional continuity which had lasted 68 years, as well as a long period of economic expansion based on the export of raw materials which had doubled between 1913 and 1928.

GUILLERMO MOSCOSO, "DE HOSTOS' POLITICAL THINKING IS DISTORTED"
On December 16, 1938, at the Eighth International Conference, held in Lima, Perú, de Hostos was declared "Citizen of the Americas." The distinguished Argentine educator, Bartolomé de Mitre, said de Hostos taught America to think.

It is to be noted that on September 16, 1898, de Hostos proposed a plebiscite in which Puerto Ricans would exercise their right to decide the future of Puerto Rico's political status.

Un país sin indios. La imagen de la Pampa y la Patagonia en la geografía del naciente Estado argentino
The government of the Argentine Confederation (1852-1861) and the first government from the unified Argentina, that of Bartolomé Mitre (1862-1868), they intended to change the external image of the Argentina to attract investments and immigrants.
