However, truth was on his side, as Donatien Laurent has recently proved beyond doubt.
With the Barzaz Breiz, it is noted that not only has the oral Breton literature begun to be appreciated, collected and published.
In addition, a whole soul and spirit, the Breton soul and spirit, with its culture has rediscovered its dignity, its legitimacy and the foundations of its future.

"Barzaz Breiz" is the "The Plaints of Brittany," the bardic tales, music, and folklore of Brittany (Breiz is Brittany in its native language).
It is considered still a celtic nation, and it's language of Breton is still lingering, despite France's attempts to eliminate it from the spoken spectrum.
He collected the popular songs from the oral traditions, and he is still a contraversial character to many, as there are some who still think he invented some of the material he collected since he was also half French, with the aristocratic ideals of disliking the Breton culture.

 Barzaz Breiz at AllExperts
The Barzaz Breiz ("The Plaints of Brittany", Barz refers to "barde" and Breiz means "Brittany") is the collection of Breton folk tales, legends and music collected by Théodore Hersart de la Villemarqué and published in 1839.
The collection achieved a wide distribution, as the Romantic generation that "discovered" the Basque language was beginning to be curious about all the submerged cultures of Europe and the pagan survivals just under the surface of folk Catholicism.
The Barzaz Breiz brought Breton folk culture for the first time into European awareness.

Basically, you can consider two parts in Brittany: the West (Breizh Izel) and the East (Pays Gallo), both divided into smaller areas (Cornouaille, Leon, Tregor, Vannetais, Pays de Loudia, de Redon, Nantais Rennais, Penthievre, etc.) This cultural and geographical variety has to appear as much as possible in the music, whatever instrument you play.

Fest Vraz is, indisputably, an album “made in Breizh!” It’s a 2-CD compilation from Keltia Musique, celebrating both 20 years of that esteemed label and the memory of its founder, Herve Le Meur.
This collection is just superb from beginning to end, whether one is listening to some age-old traditional example of alternate singing for dancing or the breathtaking inventiveness of a contemporary “super group” like Barzaz.
I’ve a long held and rather strange affection for maritime singing, so it’s worth mentioning that Cabestan are probably the best group in the world in that genre.

The latter issue was excellently illuminated by Jeep T. Leerssen (Amsterdam), who made a typological and comparative analysis of the philological recuperation of national epics, a willingness to link modern, artistic literature to folklore traditions and an inclination to the retrospective creation of continuities.
In philological research, and the publishing and functioning of supposedly original source corpuses of "national literature" (e.g., Kalevala, Mabinogion, Barzaz Breizh, Hildebrandslied, Kraljedvorski rokopis), scientific punctiliousness was often mixed with mystification and literary creativity.
The utopian projection and formation of a "Slovenised" literary system has been intertwined with the successful establishment of a unified Slovene literary language.

The Barzhaz Brest is a collection of 81 poems written between november 1998 and october 1999 in Brest (Brittany).
The title ironically refers to Barzaz Breizh, a book of popular Breton songs which La Villemarqué collected from singers in Britanny in the XIXth century, then translated in french and published in Paris during the romantic revival of celtic studies.
The present collection, Barzhaz Brest, takes place in a modern military harbour, Brest, both Breton and French as its heraldic picture defines it, completely destroyed in 1944, and where the French navy has now its nuclear forces.
