Radu cel Frumos (Radu the Handsome), (c.1437/1439-1475), was the younger brother of Vlad Ţepeş (Dracula) and voivode (prince) of the principality of Wallachia.
Radu ruled from 1462 until 1473, when Basarab Laiotă cel Bătrân (Basarab Laiotă the Old) took over the throne for a year; in the same year Radu regained the throne and retained it until the following year.
During the course of 1474 Radu was Prince three times, and Basarab twice; by the end of that year Radu was Prince once more, and remained so until the following year when he died of syphilis, and was naturally succeeded by Basarab.

The formation of the Romanian state happened when Basarab I (1310-1352), son of Tihomir, united the Romanian voivodes either side of the Olt, creating a feudal state based at Câmpulung.
1386-1418 Reign of Mircea the Elder (Mircea cel Bâtrân), son of Radu I. He defeated the Turks in several battles, driving away the Turks from Dobrogea and extending its rule to the mouths of Danube around 1400 to include Dobrogea and Silistra.
Petru cel Tanar (1559-1589) defeated armies of the fugitive boyers with help of the Turks and during the 1590's Turks settled in Wallachia.

In 1399 Pope Boniface IX of Rome registers the existence of the Ortodox church while in 1477 Laiota Basarab cel Batran (the Old) sends for parson Costea in Schei.
The papal bull of December 25, 1399 confirms the existence of a place of Orthodox education and worship in Schei.
In 1495 "The Holy Church and the School" were built thanks to voivode Vlad Calugarul, whose action was continued by Negroe Basarab, Petru Cercel, Mihai Viteazul, etc. In 1495 parson Bratu from Schei writes the first letter in Romanian at Sibiu.

Castelul Bran (in slava - brana = poarta) apare mai intai in documentele din prima domnie a lui Basarab Laiota (1473-1476).
In martie 1395, in timpul domniei lui Mircea cel Batrin (1386-1418) se incheie la Brasov un tratat de alianta cu regele Ungariei - Sigismund de Luxemburg (1386-1437) in scopul inceperii luptei impotriva armatelor turcesti (conduse de sultanul Baiazid).
Mircea cel Batrin acorda brasovenilor un nou tratat de comert in 1413, in care se specifica vama ce trebuia platita ; in 1419 regele Sigismund preia cetatea de la Mihail, fiul si succesorul lui Mircea cel Batrin si o pune sub comanda directa a comitetului secuilor, subordonat voievodului Transilvaniei.
