Chopping down on the ball, even though the batter swings through the ball, shall be considered as an attempt to accomplish the same thing as a bunt.
Possession means the ball is seen by the umpire to be in the player's glove or bare hand and off the ground.

Although baseball is considered a non-contact sport, a runner may be allowed to make potentially dangerous contact with a fielder as part of an attempt to reach base, unless that fielder is fielding a batted ball.
Baseball's history is full of heroes and goats—men who in the heat of the moment (the "clutch") distinguished themselves with a timely hit or catch, or an untimely strikeout or error.
Baseball is most popular in East Asia and the Americas, although in South America its popularity is mainly limited to the northern portion of the continent.

Common pitches include a fastball, which is the ball thrown at a maximum velocity; a curveball, which is made to curve by rotation imparted by the pitcher; and a change-up, which is a slower version of a fastball.
The number of balls and strikes thrown to the current batter is known as the count; the count is always given balls first, then strikes (such as 3-2 or "three and two", which would be 3 balls and 2 strikes).
Baseball is thought to be a direct descendant of cricket, rounders, and town ball (which was much like rounders), though the game's true origins are uncertain.

Baseball . Shadow Ball . Thirties Baseball | PBS
We played ball on the uneven surface of open fields and empty lots (we never called them sandlots) or sometimes on a real diamond used at other times by high school or semipro town teams.
The end of the tightly wound string of the ball's inside was glued down, and because the naked ball was slightly smaller and harder than one with its leather cover intact it was fun to play with for a while.
We sometimes played baseball in the street — I lived in a small suburban town not far from New York City — where we used a manhole cover for home plate and maple trees on either side of the street for first and third base.

Strike zone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In baseball, the strike zone is a conceptual rectangular area over home plate which defines the boundaries through which a pitch must pass in order to count as a strike when the batter does not swing.
If any part of a pitched ball intersects any portion of this plane, the ball is in the strike zone and should be ruled as a strike (unless hit.) Technically, the strike zone has depth as well; the rules define a volume of 3-dimensional space–a right pentagonal prism.
While baseball rules provide a precise definition for the strike zone, in practice it is up to the judgment of the umpire to decide whether the pitch passed through the zone.
