Baseball movie - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A baseball movie refers to a sports film belonging to a genre where the game of baseball is prominently featured in the plot.
If movies are often referred to as an American art form, then the baseball movie must be the most American of all.
Other baseball films are pure fiction, using baseball as a backdrop for humor (The Bad News Bears) or even mythology (The Natural).

Actually, most of the baseball movies made recently have been quite successful in the box office and in overall popularity.
Costner is not exactly a believable catcher, and the sex obsession of the movie is geared toward 30- to 50-year-olds (not that there's anything wrong with that).
The baseball portions of the movie -- and there is a great deal -- are outstanding (Costner IS believable as a pitcher, and his friend/catcher is also on the ball) and the romantic relationship bits can be quite touching as well, though perhaps overly dramatic.

As a result, baseball has become Korea's national pastime, a game that is near-and-dear to the hearts of the nation's sport fans.
The introduction of baseball and the formation of the first team, the YMCA Baseball Team, occurred as Korea increasingly fell under the political influence of Japan, which had been aggressively expanding its empire since the late 1800s.
