The Basel Dove is a notable stamp from Switzerland.
It was issued in 1845 with a value of 2 1/2-rappen.
The stamp, designed by the architect Melchior Berry, featured a white dove carrying a letter in its beak, and inscribed "STADT POST BASEL" The stamp is printed in fl, crimson, and blue, making it the world's first tri-colored stamp.

Toni Dove is an artist who works primarily with electronic media, including virtual reality and interactive video laser disk installations that engage viewers in responsive and immersive narrative environments.
The piece ran in October 1992 as an installation at the Thread Waxing Space in Soho and was presented at the New School in the spring of '93 as part of the Franklin Furnace performance series.
Dove developed a collaborative virtual reality world, Archeology of a Mother Tongue, at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada with Michael Mackenzie, a British playwright and director living in Montreal.

Born in Columbia, South Carolina, the eldest of three children, Ulysses Dove began dance study with Carolyn Tate while a premedical student at Howard University.
Dove turned to choreography at Ailey's urging, and created the 1980 solo "Inside" for Judith Jamison.
Several Dove ballets have found their definitive, punchy interpretations in performances by the Ailey company, including "Night Shade" (1982) "Bad Blood" (1984), "Vespers" (1986), and "Episodes" (1987).

Postage stamps quickly spread from England to the rest of the world.
In 1843, they were adopted in Brazil and in the Swiss cantons of Zurich and Geneva, and in 1845 the canton of Basel issued its famous Basel Dove - the first stamp to be printed in three colors.
France, Belgium and Bavaria started putting out stamps in 1849, and other countries soon followed suit.
