A parliament, the State Duma, was established in 1906, after the 1905 Revolution but political and social unrest continued and was aggravated during World War I by military defeat and food shortages in major cities.
The KGB (Committee for State Security), served in a fashion as the Soviet counterpart to both the FBI and the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) in the U.S. It ran a massive network of informants throughout the Soviet Union, which was used to monitor violations in law.
While state control of mass media, printing presses, and other means of large-scale distribution of information was strong, this samizdat was sometimes tolerated to a degree, though prominent dissidents were subject to state persecution and suppression.

Encyclopedia :: encyclopedia : Geography   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
During the time of environmental determinism, geography was defined not as the study of spatial relationships, but as the study of how humans and the natural environment interact.
But in the United States, it has a more specialized meaning: This is the name given by Carl Ortwin Sauer of the University of California, Berkeley to his program of reorganizing cultural geography (some say all geography) along regional lines, beginning in the first decades of the 20th Century.
By the 18th century, geography had become recognized as a discrete discipline and became part of a typical university curriculum in Europe (especially Paris and Berlin).

 Notes on Aleksei Malashenko
This program examines the rise of nationalism, the problem of sustainable development in the oil-producing states of the Caspian Basin, the creation of a new class of political and economic elites, and the changing role of Islam in Central Asia, the Caucasus, Russia, and elsewhere in Eurasia.
According to the authors, Russia has entered the ‘Time of the South’, in which Southern issues (regarding the Caucasus and Central Asia) have shifted from the periphery of consciousness to central awareness, and in some cases have become the determining factors in various spheres of Russian political and everyday life.
The book was prepared on the basis of documents from Islamic political and religious organizations, materials from the press, and the personal impressions of the author from his meetings with representatives of the Muslim community in Russia.

Sometimes it is with their beloved people in spirit, and they are not always correct in assuming that these souls are in “heaven,” just as I am not; sometimes it is with powerful high beings they only know of, and sometimes it’s with dark entities they don’t recognize as such.
This unique time in the universe is presenting both excitement and confusion as telepathic communication, the birthright of every soul and which in ages past was commonplace between souls in physical and souls in spirit wherever they may be, is once again happening for people on Earth.
