Basin Head is a cape located in Lot 47, Kings County, Prince Edward Island.
Extending into the Northumberland Strait, its geographic coordinates are 46'23"N, 62'07"W. Basin Head also hosts a fisheries museum and a popular beach.
The white (silica) sand found on the coast between Basin Head and East Point is geologically unique in the province.

Prince Edward Island (simply PEI or P.E.I. French, l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard) is a Canadian province situated in the Maritimes.
The geological properties of the white sand found at Basin Head is unique in the province as the grains cause a humming noise as they rub against each other when walked on.
Roughly one thousand Acadians on the island, many having already fled a British-ordered expulsion in the mainland British colony of Nova Scotia in 1755, were subsequently deported in 1758 when the British seized Île Saint-Jean during the Seven Years' War.

This summer, in response to growing tourism on the Island and increased visitor expectations, the popular tourist destination in Eastern Kings introduced a beach front park that includes a boardwalk, washrooms, change rooms, a children's play area, a supervised swimming area, an entertainment area and interpretive displays.
Premier Catherine Callbeck said that Basin Head was always a hidden treasure for many Islanders and loyal visitors to the area.
Robert Morrisey, Minister of Economic Development and Tourism noted that tourism is Prince Edward Island's most important economic contributer after agriculture and that constant attention must be given to meeting changing standards in the industry.

The Basin Head, Gilbert Bay, and Eastport MPAs, along with Musquash Estuary (New Brunswick), entered the final consultation phase in June 2005.
The Basin Head location has been designated primarily for the conservation and protection of a unique strain of Irish moss and its habitat.
This particular strain of Irish moss has a unique life cycle and is found only in the Basin Head lagoon.
