Topic: Basionym

  International Code of Botanical Nomenclature
For the purpose of this Code, a page reference (for publications with a consecutive pagination) is a reference to the page or pages on which the basionym was validly published or on which the protologue is printed, but not to the pagination of the whole publication unless it is coextensive with that of the protologue.
As this refers to the pagination of Boeswinkel's entire paper, not of the protologue of the intended basionym alone, the combination was not validly published by Peerally.
This, however, is not the place of valid publication of the intended basionym, which had previously been published, with the same type, by Baker (1891; see Art.

If the species is transferred to a different genus, the specific epithet will be retained and the name of the basionym author will be placed in parentheses before the author of the new combination, hence the alternate name of parenthetical author for the basionym author of a new combination.
Note that the "in Franklin" portion of the basionym author is not transferred to the new combination.
The basionym (Spergula stricta Sw.) and all other combinations, based on the type of the basionym, are considered to be nomenclatureal synonyms of Minuartia stricta, including Alsinella stricta (Sw.) Sw., Alsinanthe stricta (Sw.) Rchb., and Alsine stricta (Sw.) Wahlenb.

Correct name (botany) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If the section is raised in rank to become a genus Falcataria, the correct name for the tree is Falcataria moluccana (Miq.) Barneby and J.W.Grimes.
In this case, using Adenanthera falcataria L. as a basionym would lead to Falcataria falcataria, which would be a tautonym and thus disallowed.
These three names are each correct, but each only in its own taxonomic placement: that is, this tree species will have a different correct botanical name to different people.

 Scientific Authorities
To show the connection to the source of the new name, botanists retain the name of the basionym author by placing it in parentheses, hence this author is often referred to as the parenthetical author.
If the name of the species changes again, the basionym author is still retained, but the name of the author of the new combination replaces the author of the previous combination.
Since the basionym was published by Baker, not Willmott, only Baker's name is mentioned in the parenthetical position, even though it occurred in Willmott's monograph.

If the species has been placed in a different genus by a another author, the author of the original name (basionym) will be enclosed in parentheses before the author of the new combination.
If the species is now classified under a different genus than the one where it was originally described, the combination author is the person who first used the current genus-species combination.
The basionym author is enclosed in parentheses and followed by the author of the new combination.
