North Bass Island's entire western shoreline is made up of steep contour changes and rocks, especially from Manila Bay up to the airport, and between the ferry dock on the south shore to the tip of the island.
Bass can be found along South Bass' shoreline at Put-In-Bay in the north end of the island and along the drop-offs and submerged humps on the southeast side of the island.
This hotspot is north of Marblehead Peninsula and in close proximity to the Bass Islands in Sandusky County.

The island’s glacial past is evident in small scratches in the rock surface, known as glacial striations, carved by rocks embedded in the glacial ice.
Jurgo sold Middle Bass Island in 1864, and in 1866 one of the new owners, Andrew Wehrle, established the Golden Eagle Wine Cellars, which soon became one of the largest wineries in the country.
In the winter of 2000 and spring of 2001, the state of Ohio purchased 124 acres on Middle Bass Island, including undeveloped natural areas featuring wetlands, woodlands, glacial grooves, and nearly a mile of Lake Erie shoreline, along with the shell of the Lonz Winery and the marina complex.

The Erie Islands are said to have been discovered in the early years of the seventeenth century by a wandering French missionary named Gabriel Segard while exploring this then unknown country, which was at that time inhabited by Huron Indians.
The three Bass Islands, named for the fish found in their surrounding waters, and a number of reefs lie north of the Marblehead Peninsula and to the west of Kelleys Island.
Pelee Island is by far the largest of all the Erie Islands and is a popular stopping place for Americans traveling on the steamer that plies between Sandusky and southern Ontario.

Middle Bass Island is formed of limestone, created as sea creatures and mud from the Devonian Period compressed over millions of years and solidified to stone.
The Bass Islands are actually developed from dolomite, a much harder form of limestone than the Columbus limestone that forms both Kelleys and Pelee islands.
Middle Bass Island is at the center of what early 19th century settlers called "The Three Sisters." South Bass Island (home to Put-in-Bay) and North Bass Island flank Middle Bass Island.

 The Bass Rock
The Bass Rock is the closest sea bird sanctuary to the mainland and was the first to be studied by ornithologists during the 19th century, when they gave the Gannet the scientific name Sula Bassana, incorporating the name of this rocky stack.
According to legend the Bass Rock was granted to the Lauders by King Malcolm III in the 11th century.
He died in 1311 and was buried in the aisle of lairds of the Bass in the Auld Kirk graveyard at North Berwick.

The islands of Lake Erie are built upon two broad bands of limestone that stretch southeast to northwest.
Kelleys Island, Pelee Island, Middle Island and the Marblehead Peninsula lie upon a bed of soft Columbus limestone, while the Bass Islands, Ballast, East Sister and Hen are comprised of an older, stronger form of limestone called dolomite.
On the islands, this created a shifting of the rock layers to the east, so the older layers of rock are exposed as the islands to the west (Bass Islands, etc.)and the younger Columbus limestone forms the islands to the east.

 Lake Erie Islands
Rattlesnake Island, consisting of 85 acres, is located 2 miles northwest of Put-in-Bay, past Gibraltar Island.  Some claim the name was once covered with rattlesnakes, while others say the name is derived from the shape, with the two tiny islands off its western tip representing the rattles.  Today Rattlesnake is a privately owned resort.
Looking in a westerly direction, 15 miles distant, is West Sister Island.  Currently a National Wildlife Refuge and a haven for many species of shore birds, it was near West Sister that the Battle of Lake Erie came to an end, and American control of Michigan, northern Ohio, and the Old Northwest was assured.
Another Canadian neighbor is Pelee Island, just under 10 miles to the northeast.  At 36 square miles Pelee is by far the largest island in the lake, dwarfing Put-in-Bay's 2 square miles.  Pelee is primarily farming land, but is also a famous fishing resort, having been patronized by Presidents Cleveland, Harding and Taft.

Flinders Island and Cape Barren Islands are located off the North East of Tasmania, whilst King Island is situated off the North West tip of Tasmania.
Rainfall is not as high as one would expect, in fact with the exception of the west coast of King Island these islands are drier than the adjacent parts of Tasmania.
It is in winter overnight lows that the islands are much milder than the Tasmanian mainland, minimum temperatures are 3-6C milder.

Since it is three miles from Roesch's marina on Middle Bass to the green can channel buoy beyond East Point if you follow the shore of Middle Bass, it's a 23 mile round trip from the buoy.
Little Chicken Island is marked by a buoy and is underwater at this time, but reappears from time to time.
Chick Island is in the foreground, with Hen Island behind it.

Smallies are taken around all the Western Basin islands, Western Basin reefs, along rocky shorelines across the entire mainland, nearshore areas and breakwalls from Huron to Conneaut, and the open water.
To help conserve the smallmouth bass population, the Division last year decreased the legal daily bag limit for smallm outh bass from eight to five with a minimum size length of 14 inches.

The Church of Middle Bass is receiving all the combined funds, and sending all the funds to help the people in the disaster area.
On July 5, the same day that Dan West, Chief, State Parks, ODNR met with reporters on Middle Bass to say what a great place it is and how islanders have no objections to the park plans, he had earlier met with a few islanders who expressed their concern and dismay.
Arlene is survived by two sons, Jim (Mary) Roesch of Middle Bass Island, and Bob (Kathleen) Roesch of Westlake, OH and five grandchildren, Matt, Erin, Cara, Mickey and Kelly.

 Put-in-Bay and South Bass Island
It encompasses nine islands, including all of South Bass Island.  A petition for incorporation for a separate Village of Put-In-Bay was accepted in 1876 and recorded in 1877 by Ottawa County.
South Bass Island is 1,382 acres, and is 3½ long by 1½ miles wide (5.6km by 2.4km).
Each Bass Island has had it's own school at one time, with South Bass even having two.

It's “springtime in the rockies” for bass anglers on the Ohio waters of Lake Erie.
To help conserve the smallmouth bass population, the Division last year decreased the legal daily bag limit for smallmouth bass from eight to five with a minimum size length of 14 inches.
To get a better handle on Lake Erie's smallmouth bass population, the Division of Wildlife is conducting studies to better determine harvest, smallmouth bass movements, habitat use, stock composition, spawning habitats, early life history, and biological factors that are affecting the bass population.

I visited put in bay island for the first time with my friends over the weekend and it was alright, people told me before how great it was ect...
We rented a golf cart to get around the island, there was only two street that had everything on them, food, stores, ect...
St.Hazard's was on middle bass, that was like the only thing to do on that island...
