Bat Ye’or: Eurabia is a continent constituted by the countries of the European Union and the Arab-Muslim countries of the Mediterranean.
Bat Ye’or: Yes, of course, the problem that we are a too-permissive society which has lost its balance, doesn’t recognise what is right and good and this is why also we reject the Judaeo-Christian roots of our civilisation because there is a way to recognise good and bad.
Bat Ye’or: Well Romano Prodi very much, and it is a policy which is represented by not so much by people, yes, the leaders of the people, for instance the Greens, the left, which is represented at the European Commission at the highest levels.

 Dhimmi Watch: Europe's Arab gambit
According to the pioneering historian of dhimmitude, Bat Ye'or, Europe's current explosion of anti-Semitism and rapidly rising Muslim population are the results of a strategy implemented long ago.
According to Yeor, 'the volume of this population flow was unprecedented in the history of European colonialization.
Bat Ye'or fervently believes that the US is the last best hope because of its fervent Judeo Christian ethos to combat the threat of islamization both here in America and around the globe.

Locating intolerance in the Arab world
Yeor affirms that "jihad has not been rejected or denounced as a way of relations with non-Muslims." It took until the last century for some Arab countries to denounce the doctrine of Dhimmitude, and only as a direct result of European colonialism.
Yeor explains that even the countries that did officially denounce the practice are still greatly influenced by it in every aspect of daily life.
Yeor quotes a seventh-century caliph who describes the system as one whose purpose is to "produce a condition of humiliation, degradation, and vulnerability." The deep-rooted ideology of Dhimmitude becomes especially poignant in the Western world's struggles with Arab nations.

Bat Yeor, who occasionally contributes to National Review Online, made her reputation by documenting the tragic fate of the dhimmi Christians of the East, in lands conquered by Islam.
For her part, Bat Yeor says it is impossible for her to believe that she would have been invited to speak by students who were unfamiliar with her work.
Bat Yeor describes the Jewish students as looking "miserable and stunned." David Littman told me last week in New York that one of the Jewish students came to him and asked him not to deliver his lecture.

Bat Yeor, born a Jew in Egypt but exiled to Europe, is the best-known historian of what she has termed dhimmitude, and has written three books on the subject.
Yeor's and Littman's comment were often historically inaccurate and their use of sources and material out of context to their advantage was disappointing.

Bat Ye'or is the world's preeminent historian of Islam, jihad and dhimmitude--the reduced state of non-Muslim peoples living under Islamic rule.
Bat Ye'or is the most informed and insightful contemporary scholar of those unique Islamic institutions which regulate the relations between Muslims and non-Muslims: jihad, and its corollary institution, dhimmitude, the repressive and humiliating system of governance imposed upon those non-Muslims (i.e., dhimmis) subjugated by jihad.
Although she coined the term dhimmitude, Bat Ye'or's characterization of the salient features of this institution is entirely consistent with the views of seminal scholars from the early and mid 20th century, such as Sir Jadunath Sarkar, and Antoine Fattal.

Bat Ye'or's thirty years of scholarship on "dhimmitude", the religious, cultural, and political fate of non-Muslims, in particular Christians and Jews, living under Islamic rule, is a seminal effort to recapture this specific suppressed history.
In her current work, "Islam and Dhimmitude: Where Civilizations Collide", the author bravely elucidates how doctrinal patterns of subjugation of the dhimmi peoples (i.e., Christians and Jews) initiated during the Arab and Turkish waves of Islamic conquest, the jihad-dhimmitude continuum, are of immediate relevance to contemporary historical trends and specific events.
Along the way she throws light on the Balkans, the Israel-Palestinian conflict, persecution of non-Muslims under the Shari'a, the rise of Islamism and Arabism, the doctrine of Western guilt and Muslim sense of victimization -- this is a wonderful expose of a story which has been hidden for far too long.

For Ye'or (a pen name), the question is no longer one of correcting the historical record about supposed golden ages of interfaith relations.
Bat Ye'or starts her answer by pointing to the massive immigration from Asia and Africa that has created new demographic facts on the ground in Europe where, outside of the rapidly growing Muslim population, birth rates have declined precipitately.
