 | | On June 21, 2002, Mr Sukhjit Singh, then a resident of Chhichhrewal village in Batala tehsil, was booked by the Batala police for having allegedly murdered his neighbourer’s servant for having illicit relations with his two teenage nieces. |
 | | Mr Sukhjit Singh brought Naresh Mirdha to Chandigarh and his lawyer, Mr Hemant Saini, produced Naresh before the high court, which ordered that he be provided security so that the police, in order to justify the case, did not cause any harm to him. |
 | | Now, taking note of the alleged high-handedness committed by the Batala police of Gurdaspur district in falsely implicating innocent persons in the murder that never was, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered a CBI inquiry into the matter. |
