Andrew Kehoe was born in Tecumseh, Michigan, on February 1, 1872, in a family of thirteen children.
While on the school board, Kehoe was appointed the Bath Township Clerk in 1925, but was unsuccessful at retaining this position in the election later that year.

Andrew Kehoe, a school board member upset with his tax bill, used dynamite and some pyrotol from WWI-era military surplus to blow himself up along with the elementary school of Bath Township, Michigan, leaving 45 dead and 58 injured.
See a 1927 book on the disaster, a list of victims, the coroner's inquest, a historical marker, a memorial park, an oral history from a witness, and a 1920s KKK rant denouncing Kehoe as an agent of the Roman Catholic conspiracy.

BATH TOWNSHIP — Five minutes into the township board meeting, just after Trustee Robert Leiby had led the crowd in prayer, he slumped in his chair and began gasping.
Township officials and about 20 residents stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
The township’s rescue squad rushed into the meeting room and took Leiby to the hospital by ambulance.

Registered as a Michigan Historic Site in 1992, a piece of history stands at the center of the park - the original cupola from the school survived the blast and was transformed into a memorial by the Bath Township Lions.
In Bath, a tiny town outside of Lansing, Michigan, a consolidated school building was built in 1922 which strained the community's financial resources and caused successive increases in local taxes.
Michigan entered the picture on May 18, 1927, when a disgruntled taxpayer named Andrew Kehoe, a farmer from Bath, detonated 1,000 pounds of explosives under the newly constructed Bath Consolidated School, killing 38 students and 3 teachers and injuring 58 others.

Identified as a potential source of high quality groundwater for the Lansing metropolitan area in the future, fast-growing Bath Township is now working to enact groundwater protection measures before problems occur.
First, as a participant in discussions of a mid-Michigan regional water authority, the Township became aware that its groundwater resources are of potential value to the region -- and could, in fact, become a source of revenue for the community as other supplies are consumed.
Foulds says the Township is reviewing model efforts from other municipalities around the state and deliberating on whether to enact a freestanding groundwater protection ordinance or to integrate groundwater protection with site plan review.

I was surprised by this myself, but there were more children killed during this event than as a result of the Oklahoma City bombing, although I don't have data on the ages of victims from 9/11.
Nineteen children were killed as a result of the bombing of the Murrah building, which was less than the death toll among children in the Bath school bombing.
This is a much better post than the last time the Bath School Disaster was posted.
