A fantastic film, with an interesting plot, and the joker has some laughs, but the sad part is, it's only third best in terms of the top (and only) 5 Batman movies.
I love Batman and I love Tim Burton...and seeing this as an 8th grader, thought it was a groovey breath of fresh comic-adaptation air, but this dark movie has not stood the test of time.

Many traditionally classical composers may find fault with Elfman's dark and uniquely strange score for Batman (or, for that matter, any of Elfman's scores), but it doesn't change the fact that Batman was one of the highpoints for soundtracks of the 1980's.
The main theme is the best Batman theme ever conceived --and it is a great shame, with due respect to Elliot Goldenthal, that the Batman series abandoned the great theme halfway through.
Bits and pieces of Princes' songs work their way into the score --don't be fooled by the seperate, hideous song album (it has the gold bat logo from the top of this page in the center of its cover).

The film itself, while having dated perhaps more than any other Burton film (particularly with the cheesy model work and Prince music), remains an enjoyable blockbuster, that paved the way for comic book movies to be taken seriously.
This is a fun little documentary that traces Batman's 60+ year history, from comics to TV to the big screen.

The films plot is basically Batman vs The Joker to all extents and purposes, and although this premise is perhaps a little thin, theres always an action scene to liven things up.
In terms of introducing us to a new series of 'Batman films', Tim Burton does an excellent job of bringing Batman into Gotham City, were no-body knows who or what Batman is. Micheal Keaton does a great job of developing his Batman character from start to finish.
I hadn't seen the original Batman movie since it was released in 1989, and I have to say that it is not quite as good as I remember it being the first time.

It took me two viewings to accept Michael Keaton in the role of Batman, not that I had any sort of loyalty to Adam West in the campy sixties television show, but that I had already had a vision in my mind of how Batman should look and act, and Keaton was not it.
However, there is more to resolve with this film than my quibbles with the lead actor.
There are some strong scenes to compensate for the poor -- most involving Batman in action -- and the stars and clever camerawork are fun enough to watch.

After watching the last two Batman flicks, I had kind of written the series off, but watching this on TV the other night I realized that I had forgotten how good this was.
Michael Keaton was perfect as Batman, if you think about it Bruce Wayne is not the most tightly wrapped guy out there, he dresses up as a giant flying rodent and runs around at night in Gotham City beating up on criminals, and Keaton captured this essence perfectly.
It is a testament to the film's influence that numerous comic book movies have subsequently used Danny Elman scores (including rival Marvel's "Spider-Man") and molded fl rubber suits, though this film also owes much to 1978's "Superman" with its realistic approach and A-list villains.

i forget what all is detailed in the contract...but i do remember that he gets a certain percentage of all merchandising to do with any and all batman films along with a percentage of the box office....of any and all batman film ever made....for the rest of time....its a ridiculous contract.
The Batman movies are only worth about a little over a billion dollars and Jack gets a certain percentage of that.

The nadir was probably the two films by Joel Schumacher, notably Batman and Robin in 1997 when an ill-suited George Clooney dealt with Arnold Schwarzenegger's truly lamentable Mr.
This seemed to put the nail in the coffin as far as the franchise was concerned, but fans (and indeed anyone with a mild interest in the Batman's antics) can breathe a sigh of relief.
