Batman: Death and the Maidens is pretty much essential reading for any fan of the Ra's Al Ghul character.
To say why would be to spoil the ending, which shakes up things in the Batman mythos quite a bit (or at least until DC decides to cop-out and ret-con everything once again).
Batman Broken City leaves not caring who the actually villan is. With a bad and confusing story and characters comming out of nowhere; makes this book very hard and boring to read.

the plot was somewhat confusing, some of the layouts were hard to decipher (batman finding the boy with his two dead parents, i thought was a flashback) but once you get through the whole story, it makes sense.

I thought at the very least that I'd be engaged by the Pander Brothers' art, but their unusual style is graced with heavy inks by Lopez and overly bright colors by Baumann and really doesn't look right on the shiny, slick paper, losing the edgy style that the Pander Brothers usually bring to the page.
City of Light has a story that seems potentially interesting, as Batman suffers a crisis of faith, Batgirl steps up to cover for him and a mysterious industrialist brings a new innovation that could radically change Gotham City.
The notion that Batman would abandon his fanatical devotion to protecting Gotham from criminals because of one boy that he failed to protect is almost as ludicrous in the larger context of Batman stories.

The weird artwork of City of Light is hard to pinpoint as either a bold new extreme in comic art, or as simply being aimed at young kids – it's exaggerated and extremely cartoony, yet consistently surprising and kind of dark.
The story involves the aforementioned architect trying to rid Gotham City of darkness by covering over every square inch with his living light – the reasoning being, if Gotham is made of light, there will be no crime.
The actual scenes of Batman "becoming the Beast" start getting ridiculous after awhile (his grunts and half-articulated dialogue is clunky in print), but it's kind of cool to see Batman going through, like, his version of a New Warriors weekend!

Renowned architect Evan Slate wants to transform Gotham City into a "City of Light" using a mysterious glowing material that will eliminate shadows from the City's streets.
Batman being so affected by an innocence death that he is unable to fight crime just seems ridiculous to me. I would have believed it if this was set in Batman's past but he's suffered so much person tragedy through the years that this just doesn't make sense.
Sure Batman would grieve the death of a child and I'm sure it would affect him in some way, but not to the extant of what this book is trying to do.
