Batman Begins   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
With Batman Begins, a refreshingly dark and altogether solid entry in the Batman saga that promises to revive the franchise, director Christopher Nolan solves the basic problem in telling Batman stories: The tales can easily sink into camp (especially given the hero's tights and other trappings), as with the '60s TV show starring Adam West.
That takes Batman off the path to ridicule and makes us feel sorry for this fellow, who is tormented by visions of bats after falling into an abandoned well as a child.
Batman Begins offers the theory that Wayne, frustrated over the death of his parents, first seeks revenge against their killer, Joe Chill, and when he fails in this, leaves Gotham City to travel the world and learn the ways of the criminal.

'Batman Begins'   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
"Batman Begins" takes a logical leap backward, mirroring the early, edgy "Batman: Year One" stories and filling in some of the continuity gaps that have persisted since the character was born in Detective Comics No. 27 in May 1939.
In a movie that's about obsession, nearly all of Nolan's characters are blinded by a self-induced tunnel vision that obscures all but the goals they're willing to fight and die for.
The villains in "Batman Begins" are more human than some of their film predecessors, including a tough crime boss (Wilkinson), a drug-addled psychopath (Murphy) and a ninja warrior (Ken Watanabe).
