Batman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Batman (originally referred to as the Bat-man, and still sometimes as the Batman) is a DC Comics fictional character and superhero who first appeared in Detective Comics #27 in May 1939.
Batman is also supported by Superman, as well as members of the Justice League of America and the Outsiders, both of which he is often a part-time member.
Batman's first intercompany crossover is with Marvel's Hulk in the 1981 Marvel and DC Presents: Batman vs the Incredible Hulk, in which the two fight the Joker and the Shaper of Worlds.

Batman & Robin (1997 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Batman and Robin, directed by Joel Schumacher, is the fourth installment in the comic book-inspired film series initiated by Tim Burton.
The film, which is often billed as the worst superhero movie of all time, was mocked for the poor script, over-extending the campy attitude of the previous installment Batman Forever, the poor casting of other "big-name" stars Uma Thurman and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the addition of a poorly portrayed Batgirl, played by Alicia Silverstone.
The film was derisively dubbed Batman on Ice by critics for a scene in which Batman and Robin inexplicably have retractable ice skates in their boots while battling Mr.

Batman and Robin reach there just in time to meet their latest foe, who carries a large gun which freezes everything it is fired at.
In the film's favour, it's flashy, garish and rattles along without pausing for breath, but without pausing for any investment in the heroes, either: Batman is the same millionaire playboy with or without his disguise.

 Batman & Robin (1997): Reviews
Batman & Robin, like the first three films in the series, is wonderful to look at, and has nothing authentic at its core.
This film, which places yet another actor in the batsuit, has all the necessary hallmarks of a sorry sequel -- pointless, plodding plotting; asinine action; clueless, comatose characterization; and dumb dialogue.
Batman & Robin fails to engage the spirit of Batman, Robin, or decent marketing in general, and instead ends up as a limp, excruciatingly shallow knockoff that leaves viewers cringing at the unavoidable one-liners that make up the better part of the script.

The second, Batman Returns, was a less successful effort to homage German expressionist cinema, the darkest of the four films, and struggled slightly under the weight of three villains.
With the third, Batman Forever, the flat acting of new bat Val Kilmer was coupled with Joel Schumacher's garish direction and Chris O'Donnell's irritating Robin.
In fact, the idea of a Batman film as completely OTT comedy send-up may have worked, were the rest of the humour more sophisticated.

As such, 1995’s Batman Forever provided a less intense experience, and crowds responded accordingly; the sequel performed well at the box office and it looked like the franchise was back on track.
However, the film indeed failed on most levels, as it went with an obnoxiously cute and campy tone that proved to undo it.
Batman and Robin appears in an aspect ratio of approximately 1.85:1 on this single-sided, double-layered DVD; the image has been enhanced for 16X9 televisions.

Unfortunately a Batman out of the shadows looks all too sadly just like a character in a rubber-costume - his appearance at a charity gala is an unbelievably sad reduction of the dark mystery and power the character has in the comic-books and first two films.

Completely abandoning the dark gothic of the first two films, a process that he began in the equally rubbish Batman Forever [1995], Schumacher instead seems to be trying to recapture the Technicolor camp of the 1960s TV series.
Injecting what amounts to a half-hearted gay subtext into the proceedings [what is Schumacher's fixation with Batman's nipples all about?] succeeded only in alienating what few fans he'd managed to bring over from his first Bat-movie and his ham-fisted handling of the key action sequences renders them incoherent.
