Batman is the mastermind behind the Justice League of America, offering brains and tactical skills to guide the raw power of the other members of the team.
The series debuted on January 12, 1966 and was marked for its high camp, and continues to be the version many associate with the Batman character despite it perhaps being least representative of the many versions.
Despite the abhorrence of the TV series by Batman's fans of the 1970s through the present day, the live-action TV show was extraordinarily popular; at the height of its popularity, it was the only prime-time TV show broadcast twice in one week as part of its regular schedule.

On Wednesdays, Batman and his sidekick Robin would confront one of their archenemies and would end the episode in horrible danger, only to save themselves at the beginning of the next episode on Thursdays.
This time she came to save the show from falling ratings and not to protect Batman and Robin against accusations of a homoerotic relationship, as was the case for her creation by the comic book writers in the mid-1950s.
Interestingly, as in the two Batman movies released in the 1990s, this new animated series erased Robin from the scene, possibly responding to criticisms of the homoerotic subtext between the two heroes.

Even though Batman and Robin was Columbia’s second Batman serial, it was actually the first of the two Columbia Batman serials to be released on DVD -- Batman and Robin was released as a two-disc set by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on March 22 of this year.
Batman and Robin are outfitted in costumes that look like a 2005 comic book cover — the bat ears on Batman’s cowl are long and imposing, and Robin has on a full bodysuit that is red and green in color.

Batman and Robin (1949): 48 years later there would be another movie called "Batman and Robin" starring George Clooney as Batman and Chris O'Donnell as Robin, but long before that was this movie serial which marked the Dynamic Duo's second live-action appearance (the first being in 1943 with "The Batman" serial).
After this serial was released and became very popular, the Vicki Vale character became pretty common in the Batman comics.
Batman and Robin are much better fighters; not wimps like in the first serial.

During the 1940s there were two Batman Serials made by Columbia Pictures, one in 1943 titled "Batman" and one in 1949 "Batman and Robin." Serials consisted of a bunch of 15-minute "chapters" that usually left you with a cliffhanger to keep you coming back the following week.
In this serial, the Bat-Signal was used by the police for the first time to call Batman for help.
As Batman and Robin discover the hideout, actually under the professor's house, they learn that The Wizard is the twin brother of the professor's servant.

Batman returned to live action for his second (and final) serial run in 1949.
The Batmobile used for this serial was a factory-stock 1949 Mercury Convertible.
Like in the 1943 serial, the same car also happened to be Bruce Wayne's regular transportation; the only difference was that the top was put up when it was in use as the Batmobile.

The ’43 BATMAN serial was the first source to actually give a name to the Batcave, and did have some impressive-looking sets, especially for the traditionally low budgets provided for the Saturday-morning serials.
Anchoring the series was Adam West, who wisely opted for a more understated portrayal of Batman, only chewing the scenery when it was really called for, and otherwise maintaining a deadpan approach that made his lines all the funnier.

Before television, movie serials were the equivalent to a TV series and Batman appeared in two serials.
The first Columbia Batman serial appeared in 1943 starring Lewis Wilson as Batman and the second serial appeared in 1949 starring Robert Lowery as Batman.
Although the 1966 Batman was far different from the 1939 creation, it still delighted all from children to adults and continues to do so.
