BATTAMBANG, or Battambong (locally Phratabong), the chief town of the north-western division of Cambodia, formerly capital of Monton Kmer, i.e.
Battambang was taken by the Siamese when they overran the kingdom of Cambodia towards the end of the 18th century, and was recognized by the French as belonging to Siam when the frontier of Cambodia was adjusted by treaty in 1867-1872.
Under a further treaty in March 1907 (see Siam), the district of Battambang was finally ceded to the French.

Battambang is served by all forms of transportation.
There isn't much to see except to say you've been here, but the road from Battambang is good so you won't waste a lot of time and energy getting there.
There are a couple of pagodas in and around town and a few waterfalls, but other than that it's nothing more than a nice ride out, a night on the town, and a ride back to Battambang.

All the curry dishes at Battambang are red curries and the one we ordered came with boneless chicken chunks, green beans, yams, and bits of young coconut meat.
Another area where Battambang stumbled was in the desserts.
I would give Battambang a strong recommend; the majority of dishes we got were excellent and flavorful, and even though some of the things faltered, the better dishes we got pulled the experience through.
