Mrs Battir said the non-payment of water tariffs by security agencies, schools and health facilities in the communities was posing a financial threat to the sustainability of CWSA especially.
Mrs Battir told the Ghana News Agency at Wa on Thursday that although the community water project was to assist people to get access to potable water, the non-payment of tariffs could collapse the system, as it was not making profit.
Mrs Battir said nine towns would receive small town water systems under the World Bank assistance while nine others would also be rehabilitated and expanded to meet the growing population of the towns.

When we reached Battir, it was already prayer time for Moslems so some went to pray in the mosque nearby, while the rest enjoyed having some refreshments others observed the greenery of the village, the old Roman irrigation system and of course the warm welcome of the people of the village.
It was about how a girl —Amal-from the Al Arroub Refugee Camp faced the sadness of losing her groom who was martyred on one of the checkpoints and transformed all the anger to become a peace activist.

Blandina B. Battir, Regional Director of CWSA who said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Wa on Thursday said CWSA paid 90 percent of the amount while various District Assemblies and beneficiary Communities settled for the remaining 10 percent.
She said, the first phase of the project, which would provide a total of 428 boreholes would serve 365 Communities with a total population of about 224,542 people.
Battir said nine towns would receive small towns water systems under the World Bank Assistance while nine other existing systems would be rehabilitated and expanded to cater for the communities.

Battir village lies adjacent to the Armistice line (Green Line) and is located 6 kilometers west of Bethlehem city.
Battir citizens have continued cultivating these parcels of land based on 1949 Rhodos agreements signed by the Jordanian and Israeli Governments.
In the case of Battir, the Wall will not pass along and on the 1949 Armistice line (Green Line), rather 3.3 km of the Segregation Zone will penetrate the northwestern and western parts of Battir village.

Battir is a village of 3,000 Palestinians whose ancient stone houses tumble down a gorge that once marked the pre-1967 Green Line.
To its north stretches the ever-extending arm of Gilo, home to 30,000 Jewish settlers, built on 675 acres of land expropriated from Battir's neighbouring village of Beit Jala and site of some of the fiercest military battles of the Al-Aqsa Intifada.
In November 1996, he beat to death Hilmi Shousha, a 10-year-old boy from Battir's sister village of Husan, for throwing stones at his car.

In Battir, a famously peaceful village perches on the edge of a wadi above the British-built Tel Aviv to Jerusalem railway, which marks here the ‘Green Line’ or ceasefire line of 1948.
As we walked amongst the terraces our host, Sameer Oweneh of the Battir Charitable Society, explained how the Wall plans delivered recently by the areas military commander cut off hundreds of acres of olive groves – and irrigated terraces - from the village.
Last season, some olive pickers who dared to cross via the railway tunnel, freely used by children and sheep, were jailed for one month.

Through the course, the women got to know each other better, strengthening their relations and ability to interact, and planned for a one day trip visit to Battir village, west of Beit Jala, organized by the East Jerusalem YMCA international women group.
They visited Battir with its natural resources, natural gardens, various different kinds of fruits and green land resources, and because Battir is famous for the many water resources it contains.

For more than two years the cluster of Nahalin, Husan and Battir was totally closed and the only access was on foot via the Husan/ Al-Khadr junction.
The IDF re-opened the road onto bypass road 375 in November 2003, but controlled movement initially with a mobile checkpoint and after that by setting up a military observation tower to monitor the passage of vehicles.
Recently, the village council obtained a map of the planned construction of a terminal west of road 60 and a tunnel with a gate under road 60 connecting the villages of Hussam, Battir, Wadi Fukin and Nahalin with Beit Jala and Bethlehem.

Located to the southwest of Jerusalem, the original village of Al-Walaja was situated between the villagers of Battir and Malha.
The village was destroyed in the 1948 Occupation (Al-Nakba), and the Aminadav settlement built on its lands, along with a park for the Zionist colonizers.

Upon arrival to the village, the participants were told that the road to the field of the farmer, Ghassan Olayan, 40s, is blocked by the Israeli railway project.
Olayan's field is located in the West Valley of Battir near the 'Green Line' – of the 1948 boarders between Israel and the West Bank – on which the railway is built.

 POICA-A Restraining Order to halt Constructions at Al Khader Crossing Point !
Residents of Bethlehem western rural village councils (Nahalin, Hussan, Battir, Wadi Fukin) along with Al Khader and Beit Jala Municipalities objected the military order and filed petitions to the Israeli Supreme court to stop the construction of the terminal.
The petition rejects the whole route of the Segregation Wall which is planned to be constructed in Western Bethlehem Governorate, as the Wall encompasses all of Gosh Etzion settlement bloc and threatens the isolation of more than 53200 Dunums of Palestinian lands.
The Palestinian villages of Al Walajeh, Battir, Husan Nahalin and Wadi Fukin will be entrapped between two Walls; one that runs along bypass road number 60 (or the locally known by the 'Tunnel Road'); while the other runs close to the 1949 Armistice Line (Green line).
