Although victorious at the battle of Varna, the ottomans and their Arab vassals were so badly shattered and daunted by the small Christian army that they were unable to organize the pursue neither to use their strategic advantage and to continue advancing to the Central Europe.
In the Battle of Varna, the mixed Christian army of Polish and Hungarian forces, Bulgarians, Czechs, papal knights, Bosnians, Croatians, Romanians and Routeni (Old Russians) under the young King of Poland Wladyslaw III Jagelo was defeated by the Ottoman Turks under Sultan Murad II.
After the Battle of Varna, the son of Murad - Mehmed II brought an end to the Byzantine Empire by capturing Constantinople in 1453 (during the well-known Siege of Constantinople and the massacres of hundred thousands innocent men, women and children), and other Christian cities left in the Balkans and Anatolia.

Battle of Adys, 256 B.C. Battle of Adys, 256 B.C. The battle of Adys was the first major battle during the Roman invasion of North Africa during the First Punic War.
Two generals - Bostar and Hadrubal son of Hanno – were appointed to command the troops already at Carthage (amongst them the survivors of the defeat at Cape Ecnomus), while Hamilcar was recalled from Sicily, along with a force of 5,000 infantry and 500 cavalry.
In the aftermath of the battle, Regulus moved to Tunis.

The battle of Cape Ecnomus (offshore Cape Ecnomus, southern coast of Sicily, 256 BC) was a naval battle between the fleets of Carthage and the Roman Republic, fought during the First Punic War.
Due to the amount of ships and crews involved (about 100 rowers and 150 combat troops per ship), this battle was the largest naval battle of the ancient world, and by some definitions the largest naval battle in history.
Carthage initial battle disposition was the traditional long line, with the centre commanded by Hamilcar, and the two flanks, the right one commanded by the Hanno defeated in Agrigentum, slightly advanced.

This device was first used at the Battle of Mylae in 260 B.C., resulting in a Roman victory with around thirty Punic ships captured.
The battle was fierce, but the Carthaginian advantages in maneuverability were no longer as marked and they had no answer to the Roman’s spiked boarding ramp.

In the aftermath of their defeat at the battle of Cape Ecnomus, the Carthaginians had been convinced that the Romans would sail directly for Carthage, and so had concentrated their efforts around the city.

In 256, their consul, a man named Marcus Atilius Regulus, crossed the Mediterranean sea, created a bridgehead, and continued to march inland.
Near Adys, his 16,000 men met a (probably smaller) Carthaginian army that was commanded by Hasdrubal and an otherwise unknown Bostar.
It was the last land battle between the two powers.
