  Antietam! -- Page 1 of 1 -- - Gameworld Network
Antietam!, developed by Breakaway Games, is largely nothing more than an improved Gettysburg!, which is both a good thing and a bad thing.
is a real time game using symbolic units (in other words every single participant is not literally represented on the battlefield) and the number crunching is all behind the scenes, the inclusion of the fire arrows is extremely helpful in telling how an engagement is faring at a glance.
Antietam Creek and the Potomac River also are represented, the latter having little impact on the game while the former plays an important role.

 Review - Sid Meier's Antietam! // PC /// Eurogamer
Antietam is a real time wargame set during the American Civil War, recreating the bloodiest day in American military history, in which around four thousand men were killed and another seventeen thousand wounded.
A single battle might not sound like much, but the battlefield is enormous and the game features a whole range of scenarios, from short skirmishes involving a handful of units in a little corner of the map to replaying the entire battle, something which takes up to twelve hours to accomplish.
The game is overwhelmingly complex at the best of times, with a huge battlefield to watch over and dozens of seperate units to control in the full battle scenarios.

The final game will also feature additional terrain types, including standing corn, stubble fields, plowed fields, dridges, fords, sunken roads and embankments, as well as 20 scenarios with historical and speculative variants for full-day or half-day battles.

Antietam tells the stories of the 90,000 men who fought one of the most brutal battles in the most deadly war in United States history.
Antietam puts the player in charge of either the Union or Confederate forces, starting with a few units in the tutorial and finishing with an exacting recreation of the entire battle.
When playing the entire battle, it is almost better to have another three generals at your virtual side--there is no pausing to issue orders in multiplayer, and the amount of troops that need to be attended to may prove to be too much for one person.
