Battle of Bajor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the fictional Star Trek universe, the Battle of Bajor (known by its Starfleet planners as Operation Return) was a major battle and a turning point in the Dominion War.
For his actions during the battle, Captain Sisko is awarded the Christopher Pike Medal of Valor (DS9: "Tears of the Prophets").
The battle in "Sacrifice of Angels" is one of the largest space battles shown in television or motion picture science fiction

A subsequent action occurs in the system a year later, and both battles are turning points in the course of the Dominion War.
The crew of the USS Defiant determine that the platforms are powered by a facility on an asteroid in orbit of the planet.
The battle quickly follows the Breen's lightning raid on Earth itself (strategically a psychological victory, if tactically questionable due to the complete destruction of the Breen attackers).

DS9 Encyclopedia & Lexicon - Recurring Characters: Winn
Winn's next appearance was in "Rapture", when she came to the station for the formalizing of Bajor's entry into the Federation.
She was present when the Reckoning began between a Prophet and a pah-wraith, but, lacking faith in the outcome, she then went to Ops and triggered a buildup of chroniton radiation, driving the beings away and disrupting the battle, thus leaving Bajor's future in grave doubt.
Winn retreated to her study on Bajor to research the Text of the Kosst Amojan for information on how to free the pah-wraiths.

 Operation Return - Memory Alpha
The objective of the mission was the recapture of starbase Deep Space 9, which had been captured in the opening battle of the war approximately five months previously.
Although the battle was a clear tactical and strategic victory for the Federation in the long run, aside from preventing fresh Jem'Hadar reinforcements there was little impact in the Dominion's offensive.
In addition, the battle provided a large boost to the allied forces' morale, definitively showing that the Federation and Klingon forces were capable of winning a major victory.

 Emissary (episode) - Memory Alpha
The station is in a state of disarray because the Cardassians ransacked it after ending the Occupation of Bajor; the planet Bajor is in a similar state.
When Sisko meets the Kai on Bajor, she urges him to explore his Pagh, or life-force, and discovers Sisko to be the Emissary of the Prophets, though she doesn't tell him everything at first.
She leads Sisko to the Orb of Prophecy, which grants him his first vision: he is mentally transported to Gilgo Beach, years earlier (circa 2354), at the time and place he met Jennifer, his wife.

 Dominion War Biography,info
The Bajorans did not inflict a military defeat on the Cardassians, but their continued harassment of Cardassian forces made continued occupation of the system undesireable; as Gul Dukat put it, it was a “political decision” to withdraw.
In order to protect Bajoran interests the station was moved from the orbit of Bajor to a point close to the Alpha Quadrant terminus of the wormhole.
The Dominion stunned the galaxy with this attack (which was likened to the Federation’s defeat at the Battle of Wolf 359), leaving only the UFP and the Klingon Empire as the remaining powers to stand up to the Dominion.

Captain Janeway's tactical officer, Tuvok, had been operating on a covert mission aboard the ship when it disappeared, and Janeway was eager to locate her missing officer as well as capturing the Raider.
She joined forces with the Maquis vessel, beaming aboard the station with Tuvok whilst Voyager and the Raider battled the Kazon.
Knowing that to return to the Alpha Quadrant would be to abandon the station to the Kazon and thus ensure the death of the Ocampa, Janeway instead beamed back to Voyager and used a pair of tri-cobalt devices to destroy the Caretaker's array.

Presumably Last Unicorn is saving these core planets for in-depth treatment in books of their own, but I would rather have had more of those two worlds now and a book on other parts of the frontier later.
The game system rewards the heroic behavior common to Star Trek characters, and spaceship battles in particular have been carefully designed so that every member of the crew gets involved, not just the player who's flying the ship or firing the phasers.

This station was re-christened Deep Space Nine, and was to become a diplomatic and commercial center for Bajor.
However, not long after the UFP's arrival, Sisko, along with science officer Jadzia Dax discovered a stable wormhole connecting Bajoran territory to the Gamma Quadrant of the Milky Way galaxy, nearly 70,000 light years away, a distance unattainable by any sentient race extant using conventional means.
Early in 2371 Sisko returned to Earth for a Starfleet debriefing on the matter, returning to the space station commanding the USS Defiant, a prototype battle cruiser originally developed to fight the Borg, but modified with a Romulan cloaking device to enter the Gamma Quadrant on a peace mission to locate the Founders.
