 Zygmunt Mineyko (1940 - 1925) and George Papandreou as family in Greece
He was born in 1840 in Lithuania, into a patriotic Polish family, and started his anti-authocratic activity during his studies in the school of Engineering in St. Petersburg where he “stirred people up against the Tsar”.
There were casualties in Mineyko’s family during the wars of 1912-1913: on the Salonika front in 1912 Aldona-Safo’s husband was killed in battle; on the Joannina from a young relative, Antoni Mineyko from Lithuania, was killed.
From the time of the battles on Salonika front Stanislaw Mineyko suffered from tuberculosis and died in Athens on November 15, 1924.

For most Tourists this is the entry airport for the region where sun seekers quickly head for the beaches of Lefkada or Parga.
At the Aktio ferry terminal for the short crossing from the airport to Preveza is a Venetian fortress (improved by the Napoleonic French) which commands the entrance to the Amvrakikos Gulf.
Back on the main road is a monument to the Bizani fighters and a museum of Greek history put together by the sculptor Paul Vrellis.

Although i doubt there is enough space to categorise all the military defeats of the turkish people and the the turkish state so i will only list defeats occuring in the early part of this century:
As I know, and as I read and heard, USA has no participation in the issue of the Greek/Italian occupation and turkish struggle to drive them out of Turkey.
In fact Mustafa Kemal Ataturk organized a ressistance and a new goverment and defeated the greek army in many battles and skirmishes, the greek army evacuated anatolia and so Italians decided not to fight and leaved Turkey and then Turkish republic was born.

One well - know event is the victory of the Evia Major Velisarios at the battle of Bizani.
