Boyhood Memories of the Civil War by Ernest N. Roupe, 1935
I recall very plainly the battle of Lone Jack, not that I could hear it for the wind was wrong, but we saw the Hotel building burning and soon learned of the battle, but my father, John Roupe, and brother Will and I went to the battle field the next day.
It has been said this battle of Lone Jack, Mo. Was on of the most savagely fought of any battle of the Civil War, for the numbers engaged, as about one third of all engaged were killed or wounded.
In the late summer of 1863, Father and I had been to the mill at Lone Jack, but were unable to get our corn ground that day.

The main Battle Ensign flown by HMS Exeter at the Battle of the River Plate remained in the possession of the commanding officer, and then passed to the Maritime Museum, while the second Battle Ensign went to the City of Exeter.
It is undated (but was sent with an accompanying letter of 3 July 2000) and also confers the right to fly a defaced blue jack.
It is possible that the reference to a jack in the Admiralty Warrant for the Blue Ensign is peculiar to Jersey, and was included only because a jack was specifically requested in addition to the ensign.

 Royal Navy - Open Encyclopedia
The first reformation and major expansion of the Navy Royal, as it was then known, occurred in the 16th Century during the reign of King Henry VIII whose ships, the "Henri Grace a Dieu ("Great Harry")" and "Mary Rose", engaged the French navy in a battle in the Solent in 1545.
In that time, the Royal Navy suffered only one major defeat, the Battle of the Chesapeake against France in 1781, and was able to defeat all challengers, as at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 where a combined Spanish and French fleet was decisivly beaten.
The Royal Navy is known as the "senior service" in the UK Armed Forces, as it is the oldest of the three branches.

Further, his descriptions of the battle conflate the rebellions at Frankenhausen and Munster, and, in doing so, lead to a broader critique and satire of the struggle for hegemony among religious and secular forces.

Ship Modeling FAQ, Question 038 --- Revised: January 22, 2001
When ensigns and jacks were worn that were built proportional to one of the major dimensions of their own ship, the flag would not be lost in profile against any ship nor would the flags overpower the ship either visually or because of wind loading.
If there was no separate canton on an ensign, the jack being worn -- as measured in historic images -- was one-half the hoist and fly dimensions of the largest ensign currently worn, which resulted in the jack being one-fourth the square footage of the ensign.
Not only was the color of the ensign important but also the configuration of the canton (the union flag design in the ensign's upper left quadrant).
