They include: the Second Battle of Athenry (1316); the battle of Knockdoe (1504); the Battle of the Yellow Ford (1596); the First Battle of Curlew Pass (1599); the Battle of Dungans Hill (1647); the Battle of Castlebar (1798), and the Battle of the Bogside (1969).
The Battle of Curlew Pass was fought on the 15th of August 1599, during the Nine Years War (Ireland), between an English force under Sir Conyers Clifford and a rebel Irish force led by Red Hugh ODonnell.
The battle of Castlebar occurred on 27th August during the 1798 rebellion when a combined force of 2,000 French troops and Irish rebels routed a force of 6,000 British troops in what would later became known as the “Races of Castlebar”.
