At Cecora (18 September to 6th October 1620), on the river Prut, Zolkiewski met the 22,000 strong Moslem army of Iskanderbasha, withstanding repeated attacks during September 1620.

They still, however, hampered the army's movement so whenever possible, if the enemy's numbers were not overwhelmingly superior, the whole army was led out into the open, such as at Cecora 1620.
A strong reserve was an important component in most battles of this period, used only when the enemy had committed all his forces and then unleashed in a devastating charge.
This was superbly illustrated at the battle of Kircholm in 1605, where Polish forces succeeded in surrounding and routing a three times larger Swedish force.

In 1620, he was taken prisoner by the Turks at the Battle of Cecora, in Moldavian territory, and was held captive for four years.
However, soon before he was to leave on this long voyage, his father recalled him home, just in time to take part in the battle against the Tartar hordes at Ochmatow.
In all likelihood, much of this merchandise was held in transit, eventually ending up in the markets of the growing city of Lwow.

The Eastern Wing of the Balance of Power System
However, Frederick’s crushing defeat in the battle of the White Mountain outside Prague, on November 8, 1620, also had disastrous consequences for Czech nationalism.
In 1649 he moved to the rescue of the castle of Zbaraz, where a small army under Wisniowiecki desperately defended itself against overwhelming forces, and although the battle at nearby Zborow remained undecided, John Casimir succeeded in making a separate peace with the Tartars.
For the repression which followed not only abolished the old constitution and the privileges of the Estates, leaving them only the right to vote taxes and making the king residing in Vienna practically absolute, not only outlawed the Protestants who were exiled, but also contributed to the Germanization of the country.
