While at the Battle of the Colline Gate it was Crassus who had turned the tide for Sulla, Sulla not only accepted Pompey audacious offer of partnership but had also hailed him as imperator.
Nothing was more telling of Sulla's support for Pompey than Sulla forcing the divorce of his stepdaughter, Aemilia Scaura, in order to offer her to Pompey as a bride.
The personal animosity between the two was increased during their shared consulship of 70 B.C. In the decade between the Battle of the Colline Gate and his first shared consulship with Pompey Crassus was not able to match Pompey's military skill and reputation.

 Apollo in Roman Political Propaganda
Three of the moneyers who issued Apollo types were firm supporters of the Marian cause—one died fighting at the Colline Gate in 82 [12], one accused Sulla of extortion [13] and one was proscribed [14].
Another one, if some scholars are right, also died in the Battle of Colline Gate [15], and another was a popularis and hostile to Sulla [16].
As obvious from the outcome, Apollo abandoned the Marians and it was in the holy water of Apollo that the man who brought the head of Marius Gratidianus to Sulla washed his hands [25].
