The Battle of Corupedium (also called Corupedion) is the name of the last battle of the Diadochi, the rival successors to Alexander the Great.
It was fought, in 281 BC between the armies of Lysimachus and Seleucus I.
Almost nothing is known about the battle itself save that the two aged kings met in hand to hand combat and Seleucus won the battle.

 Crannon
The battle of Crannon ended the rebellion of the Greeks, that erupted after Alexander’s death, against the Macedonian hegemony.
The first of them was the naval battle of Amorgus (summer 322 BC), where the Macedonian Cleitus destroyed the Athenian fleet; the second was the arrive from Asia of Craterus, with a rescuing army consisting of 6000 Macedonian veterans, 4000 recruits, 1000 Persian archers and slingers, 1500 cavalrymen.
Alternatively, in order to balance the battle among other things, the Greeks rout level can be raised up to 87 rout points (40%), emphasizing the fact that they where fighting for their own freedom (and ignoring the historical fact that the Thessalian had by now abandoned the coalition.

In the subsequent battle, the Phokians fought desperately and wrenched victory against long odds against the Thessalians who were compelled to retire.
The Phokians however, when they were hit by the arrows of the enemy, which flew thickly, fled and got away at once to the topmost peak of the mountain, fully assured that it was against them that the enemy had designed to come, and here they were ready to meet death.

He first appears in Alexander’s history leading that battalion at the battle of the Granicus in 334.
At the battle of Issus Craterus was still under the wing command of Parmenion, but it is clear that, at least by now, he was given more responsibility; not only did he command his own battalion, but he also had overall command of the three pezhetairoi battalions on the left.
It is possible that he held such a command at the Granicus, but it is only at Issus that the sources mention it.

As soon as Antigonus was apprised how the battle went, he said, " Ptolemaeus has, indeed, beaten boys, but he shall soon have to do with men." However, as he did not choose to repress the spirit of his son, on his request, he gave him permission to try his fortune again by himself.
During the interval, after the Lamian war, and the battle of Crannon, the government was called an oligarchy, but in fact, was monarchical, for the power of Demetrius of Phalerum met with no restraint.
The approaching battle aroused the attention not only of the parties concerned, but of all other princes; for besides the uncertainty of the event, so much depended upon it that the conqueror would not be master of Cyprus and Syria alone, but superior to all his rivals in power.

Athens must never again seek "empire" in the sense which became odious under the influence of Cleon and Hyperbolus -- when, to use the image of Aristophanes, the allies were as Babylonian slaves grinding in the Athenian mill.

The Diadochi: The liberation of Athens
And so the Athenians recovered their democracy after fifteen years; in the intervening period since the Lamian War and the battle of Crannon [9] the constitution had ostensibly been oligarchic, but was in actual fact the rule of one man because of the power exercised by Demetrius of Phalerum.
Demetrius had shown his magnificence and greatness in his benefactions, but the Athenians proceeded to make him offensive and obnoxious through the extravagant honors they voted to him.
In the battle of Crannon, Antipater defeated them (5 September 322); he had placed a garrison in Athens and put an end to the democracy.

Is the Pen Mightier Than the Sword?
Using the battle as the climax would have encouraged by its very nature a negative treatment of the orator who ran away, but instead Plutarch shapes the Life to lead up to the death scene, where he considers the orator to have atoned for many of his past faults.
Philip manipulates and distorts the beginning of the decree, a speech act captured in stone (Demosthenes Demosthenous Paianeus tad' eipen), by scanning it and turning it into a jingling verse; but when sober he realises the power of the words he has mocked; this is then supported by the respect of the Persian king.
The triumph is short-lived, however, at least in one sense, as the Greeks are crushed in battle at Crannon (the sword prevailing once again) and Demosthenes' death follows immediately in Plutarch's account.
