The Battle of Resaca was part of the Atlanta Campaign of the American Civil War.
The battle was waged in Gordon and Whitfield counties Georgia from May 13 to May 15, 1864.
The battle was fought between the Military Division of the Mississippi (led by William T. Sherman) on the side of the Union and the Army of Tennessee (Joseph E. Johnston) for the Confederates.

The battle was part of the Atlanta Campaign, which featured General William T. Sherman's massive Union army against the Army of Tennessee, now commanded by General John B. Hood, which was defending the Confederate stronghold of Atlanta, Georgia.

John Neely Bryan, the founder of Dallas, was born on December 24, 1810, in Fayetteville, Tennessee.
He returned to Dallas in 1861, and volunteered for the army, but was discharged in 1862 because of poor health.
However, all that is known about the origin of Dallas for the name of the city is that John Neely Bryan named it for "his friend, Dallas" There are several candidates for whom this friend might be.

After the fierce battle of the afternoon and night of the 27th of May, the Regiment participated in the movements of our Army in front of Atlanta until the 22nd of June.

DALLAS (AP) -- A custody battle between a Dallas widow and her Oklahoma in-laws has taken a complicated turn, with the in-laws asking a judge to turn the dispute over to an American Indian tribal court in Oklahoma.
Attorneys for Katherine Crank of Eufaula, Okla., mother-in-law of the Paula Crank and grandmother to her 7- and 10-year-old daughters, asked a state judge in Dallas last week to turn the case over to a Choctaw Nation court in Oklahoma.
Paul R. Shunatona, the grandmother's Dallas attorney and past president of the Texas Indian Bar Association, cites the federal Indian Child Welfare Act, enacted by Congress 20 years ago to help tribes maintain population and their cultural heritage.

But a battle over Keith's Comics, a small store selling games and books in downtown Dallas, continues because last August a jury found the same clerk guilty of obscenity for selling another comic book.
Dallas police arrested the store clerk in January and charged him with two counts of obscenity, which could have carried a 5-year jail term and a $20,000 fine.
