The Battle of Degsastan was fought in 603 AD between the Anglo-Saxon king Aethelfrith of Northumbria and the Scots under Aedan of Dalriada.
Aethelfrith carried the day, although Aedan survived as King of Dalriada until 608 when he was succeeded by his Son Eochaid, but we know almost nothing else about the battle, not even where "Degsastan" was supposed to be.
Aethelfrith and went on to establish Northumbria as the union of Bernicia and Deira, while the Dalriadans refrained from attacking the Angles for many years thereafter.

Bede saw the fulfillment of this prophecy in the battle of Chester of c.613, in which the prayers of British monks proved ineffective against the wrath of Æthelfrith of Northumbria.
The battle of Chester is noted by Bede (HE, ii.2) as the fulfilment of a prophecy of Augustine's that the British, if they would not convert the English, would be killed by them instead (see entry on 602).
The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records the battle under 617, but since Bede says that Edwin had ruled the Northumbrians for 17 years at the time of the Battle of Hatfield of October 12, 633 (HE, ii.20), the correct date for the battle and for Edwin's accession is presumably 616.

Alternatively, N.J. Higham (1992:6-10) has suggested that the battle of Chester was the final defeat of King Ceorl of Mercia whom he believes was the overking of most of the midlands and Wales.

The annals date the battle at 613 in the Annales Cambriae and Annals of Ulster, 614 in the Annals of Inisfallen, and to 616 in the Annals of Tigernach, the latter claiming that Æthelfrith died immediately after the battle of Chester (Chadwick 1963b:173-177).
