During this Battle John Churchill, First Duke of Marlborough and commander of the Allied Armies, showed to be a genius in strategy, with the result that the French-Spanish armies of Louis XIV under the command of François de Neufville, known as de Villeroy, lost this battle.
The Battles of Oudenaarde on July 11, 1708 and Malplaquet on September 11, 1709 were again a victory for the English Armies and the Allied Armies.
On July 24, 1712 the Battle of Denain took place which was won by the French Armies.
