The Battle of Dry Lake, also known as Sore Ass Lake, was the first decisive victory of the United States over the Modoc Indians in northern California in 1873.
The battle was fought between the United States Army under Lieutenant Colonel Frank Wheaton and a band of the Native American Modoc tribe from Oregon and California, led by Captain Jack.
The battle orders called for the howitzers to fire three shots as a signal for Bernard to begin the attack, then they were to pause for 15 minutes before resuming firing to give the Modoc a chance to move their women and children out of the Stronghold.

 The battle over Cave Rock
Lake Tahoe, first glimpsed by Anglo explorers Kit Carson and John Fremont in 1844, became a center of pioneer frenzy as the half-billion dollar Comstock Lode was exploited between Reno and Carson City, 1859-1864.
During the latter part of the 19th century, the Washoe, whose numbers once exceeded 5, 000 in a territory spanning from Honey Lake to the Stanislaus River, saw their roster of survivors plunge to 300.
The rock wall above the lake surface and an overhung cliff leading to the cave proved ideal for the ultra-tough routes used in "sport climbing." This gymnastic variation values the slow gain of inches in repeated attempts on a short route, above any straightforward push to a high summit.

Lake Sonoma's Unique Landlocked Steelhead Trout Fishery, by Dan Bacher
Lake Sonoma, situated at the junction of Warm Springs Creek and Dry Creek in the gorgeous wine country of Sonoma County near Healdsburg, is one of the only lakes in California where anglers still have the chance to catch wild landlocked steelhead.
Fishing for the lake's steelhead, fl bass and other species is an early and late proposition, since the lake is taken over by the hordes of noise and spray enthusiasts.
Lake Sonoma is unique among major California reservoirs in that it is not stocked with rainbow trout, kokanee salmon or king salmon by the Department of Fish and Game, but has a self-sustaining population of wild trout.

Koehn had previously located claims on the lake bed and challenged the claim jumpers in January 1912 in a "lively" gun battle on the dry lake.
While the chain of ownership for the claims located on Koehn Lake is detailed in government investigations in between 1945 and 1971, the corporate relationship in the early years is confused.
