Ivry was the most important battle in the French Wars of Religion; victory there allowed a Protestant Henry to ascend to the French throne and establish the Bourbon dynasty, although he converted to Catholicism to soften the political transition.
Two key battles during this period were the Battle of Toulouse and the Battle of Tours, both won by the Franks, and both instrumental in slowing Islamic incursions.
The battle led to a breakdown in the Anglo-German alliance and may have even emboldened the nobles of King John to force him to sign the Magna Carta.

The engagement raged for most of the day, and while not the first engagement of pre-dreadnought technology on a wide scale (the Battle of Foochow in 1884 between the French and Chinese certainly predates this) there were significant lessons for naval observers to consider.
Admiral Ting Ju ch'ang became a casualty of the battle from the opening shot of his own vessel, along with a number of officers also present on the bridge.

If her departure from Germany to China had not been delayed due to neutrality laws, she would have outgunned any French opponent at the battle of Foochow during the Sino-French war.
However she incorporated the typical design problems that are encountered in the designs of her time throughout the world: thick armour on certain places leaving large unprotected areas, main guns with poor arcs of fire causing blast damage to the own ship, slow rate of fire combined with small secondary armament, and low free board.
She suffered badly at the Yalu River Battle and eventually surrendered to the Japanese when Wei-Hai-Wei was captured.

 Britain.tv Wikipedia - French Navy
The history of the French Navy goes back to the Middle Ages, when it was defeated by the English at the Battle of Sluys and, with Castilian help, managed to beat the English at La Rochelle.
In a very impressive effort, the French under de Grasse managed to defeat an English fleet at the Battle of the Chesapeake in 1781, thus ensuring that the Franco-American ground forces would win the ongoing Battle of Yorktown.
Efforts to make it into a powerful force under Napoleon were dashed by the death of Latouche Tréville in 1804, and the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, where the British all but annihilated a combined Franco-Spanish fleet.

 BattleFlags
The origin of the submarine battle flag in World War II is a matter of some speculation, because before 1942, U.S. submarines did not own or display them.
During late 1942 or early 1943, however, it became customary for a broom to be tied to the shears of a submarine returning from a successful patrol, indicating that it had made a “clean sweep” or sunk everything possible.
Thus, on the Submarine Battle Flag – of which Barb’s is such a great example – was born.

The Japanese fast cruisers veered to port and were then despatched by Ito to go to the assistance of the Hiyei, Saikyo and Akagi which had been unable to keep up with the main line and had then been engaged by the lefthand vessels of the Chinese line.
