 Gembloux guide by Sarah Dudfield
Gembloux is very close to the geographical centre of Belgium and lies in the province of Namur in the region of Wallonia about 50 kilometres south-east of Brussels and 20 kilometres north-west of Namur.
Gembloux was by this time under the protection of the Counts of Louvain who later became the Dukes of Brabant and was besieged in 1136, 1156 and 1185 by the counts of Namur and suffered terrible damage as a result.
From the 16th century the abbot was known as the count-abbot of Gembloux and the domain of the abbey was extended to include the villages of Liroux, Grand-Manil, Bertinchamps and Lonzée.

one of the only reasons why britain won/survived the battle of britain was the number of spitfires it had; if britain had chosen to continue the battle of france and committed its spitfires there, if germany had brought the air war to britain it would have turned out completely differently.
Battle of Britain may not have been different (as i said the british wouldn't have to send reinforcement, the french already 'saved' the navy and the airforce component) The two main problem being that Germany may not have attack the USSR with a clear second front in north Africa.
In the actual battle these factors became critical, and a French armored division was decimated by a German panzer attack while it was in the process of refueling.

I usually think of the the Gembloux battle as seperate from the fight around Hannaut-Merdorp since it was primarily French infantry corps that fought at the former.
The battle of Hannut shows that the Somua S35 tank can be at least the equal of the Panzer III and that the Panzer I and Panzer II are rather useless against the French tanks.
The use of such a French tank corps is unique during the 1940 campaign except perhaps the formation of the "groupement Buisson" beginning June for the battles on the Aisne and Retourne Rivers south of Rethel which grouped the 3e DCR and the 7e DLM.

My article "Who Won the Battle of Fallujah?" published in the January issue of Proceedings Magazine and posted online at Military.com seems to have been misunderstood by some, primarily because the editors chose to highlight the article with a phrase from the body of the piece, not necessarily representative of the article as a whole.
In addition, it's worth noting that I originally wrote the article after the first Fallujah operation in spring 2004; but by the time the article was published the November operation had already taken place.
The changes in the battle plan, the size of the forces involved and the application of firepower in November, would have made the article seem prescient had it been published say in September or October 2004.
