The Battle of Honkaniemi was fought between Finnish and Soviet forces on 26 February 1940.
Six of the Finnish tanks that managed to engage in the battle were lost and only destroyed 3 of the opposing Soviet tanks.

On the night between 25th / 26th, the JP 3 was transferred by trucks to Heponotko (the road on the map leads to it, 3 km NE from the Honkaniemi depot) and skied to the starting point, arriving at 0400 hrs.
During the battle, the lack of radios was painfully realized (the tanks were purchased from the UK without guns, optics and radios, and some even without the driver's seat, in order to save money).
As communications between the individual tanks was impossible, all tanks were acting with their own initiative, according to the original plan.

The battle i had set in mind was this, british troops launch an attack from the treeline from the south and battle there way through the town and sucure it, then with armour and arty support launch an attack across the bridges and cap some VL on the north side of the river.

The tanks were armed with the 47mm cannon which was a capable weapon at the time of the Winter War.
The only Finnish armor attack took place in February 1940 at the battle of Honkaniemi where six of these tanks went to action against Soviet T26 and T28 tanks.
The results for the Finns were disasterous as the older Vickers tanks were no match for the Soviet armor.

Biggest losses (5 tanks) came in battle of Honkaniemi 14th of February 1940.
The Division took parts to battles every now and then but with possible exception of 3rd Tank Company taking part to counter-attack against Soviets in Syväri/Svir in April of 1942 the attendance of Tank Brigade to battle was very small scale.
Viipuri battle in June of 1944 proved that BT-42 was totally unsuitable to be used in battle against other armoured vehicles - Separate Armour Company lost 8 out of its 18 BT-42 in a few days without managing to do any real damage.

One Vickers company took part in the first Finnish tank battle at Honkaniemi in February 1940 - because of technical problems and inexperienced crews, the Vickers company suffered heavy losses - 7 tanks destroyed and one disabled.
A top speed of 55km/h was considered amazing for a main battle tank (medium) of the period.
The right is one of a profusion of posters calling for financial aid for Finland's battle against Russia, which had won the sympathy and admiration of the west.
