The battle of the Hydaspes River was a battle fought by Alexander the Great in 326 BC against the Indian king Purushotthama (better known as Porus) on the Hydaspes River (now the Jhelum) in present-day Pakistan.
When the battle actually started, the Alexandrian cavalry was to the right of their line, but Alexander sent a group of cavalry to circle behind the Indians and attack them from behind.
Bucephalus was the name of the horse that Alexander rode on, having died either during battle or right afterwards of weariness and old age.

Hydaspes was fought in 326 BC between a Macedonian army under Alexander the Great and an Indian army under Porus.
Both battles were played on a table 7.5’ long by 4’ wide with a total of 7 players (3 on one side and 4 on the other).
In neither battle was the Indian right wing able to move across the battlefield to assist the Indian left wing, but this may have been due to the width of the table.

The vaunted Indian longbow was not a decisive factor in the battle, it is possible that the rains and muddy ground made archery slippery work.
In any case it was the elephant that was the weapon that made this battle such a bloody and "traumatising" battle for the Macedonians.
