When Tolkien wrote, the consensus of scholarship deprecated Beowulf for dealing with childish battles with monsters rather than realistic tribal warfare; Tolkien argued that the author of Beowulf was addressing human destiny in general, not as limited by particular tribal politics, and therefore the monsters were essential to the poem.

Not much is revealed yet, but all the old units are still in (the heroes as well) - and new units will be added and heroes like Gríma Wormtongue and Sharkû.
As you fight as Isengard you will notice that the tactic you should use is make money, spend it on building offensive (unit-building and siege use) buildings.
When you have your units upgrade them to make them more powerful, mix them together in formations (if you play against Rohan you would probably need Uruk Pikeman to defend a troop of Uruk Crossbows who are extremely good against cavalierly at close range).
