The Battle of Tucapel would be Valdivia's last: while it may be the exaggeration of legend that he was beaten to death, impaled on a stake, and his heart was cut into pieces and eaten, it is certain that he did not survive his captivity.

As with de la Madrid, the main challenges for the CTM during this administration were in the industrial arena, while the party became more congenial with the appointment of a CTM leader as its secretary general.
Salinas mounted a broader challenge to the CTM, not only attempting reforms that were contrary to CTM tenets in the economic arena but also threatening the CTM with changes in the organizational and political realms.

Battle of Las Salinas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Battle of Las Salinas was a bloody and decisive confrontation between the forces of Hernando and Gonzalo Pizarro against those of rival conquistador Diego de Almagro, on April 26, 1538, during the Conquest of Peru.
After an hour of carnage the battle yielded a victory for Pizarro's forces: with Almagro captured and his lieutenant, Rodrigo Orgóñez killed on the field of battle, the Pizarros routed the enemy and took possession of Cuzco.
Almagro's enterprise had won him several earlier battles, but although he succeeded in taking the city by a coup de main, Pizarro's forces were by far the stronger in the region, leaving him with few options for its defence.
