Lugou Bridge (蘆溝橋 lugouqiao) is located in Fengtai (豐台 feng1 tai2), a suburb south of Beijing.
The bridge was the choke point of the Pinghan Railway (Beijing-Wuhan) and guarded the only passage leading Beijing to KMT-controlled area from the south.
The west end of the bridge was controlled by the Japanese and the east by the KMT.
