Battle of Kadesh: The Battle of Kadesh (Qadesh), Part II
Traditionally, the story of the Battle of Kadesh begins with the army of Ramesses II advancing upon the city of Kadesh in four corps.
Some accounts of the battle have the two warring parties facing off once again the next day, but the ultimate results of the contest was a truce, after which the Egyptians and Hittites withdrew to their respective homelands (Ramesses II, having crushed his enemies).
The Battle of Kadesh fought by Ramesses II was a long time in the making, and not the first to be fought between the Hattities and Egyptians over this small, but strategically located vassal state.

What he tries to do, with some success, is portray the Indians he has encountered on the plains, from "peaceful nomads" to "bloodthirsty savages." He does so by telling the history of the Indians before the white man entered the picture, and then progressing through his own battles with the Indians.
His detailed recounting of the so-called battle on the Washita River in Oklahoma is worth reading since it remains one of the few first-hand reports of the battle.
He has surprisingly little remorse considering the deaths in the battle (perhaps hardened at Gettysburg, where 50,000 Americans were killed or wounded in three days of fighting in 1863), but he does tell with great sadness of the death of his dog, Blucher, who had been impaled by an Indian arrow during the battle.

The battle is remembered today only because the Lakota leader who tried to capture the Omaha flag went on to greater military successes--against the U.S. Army in the 1860s--and then, in 1893, reminisced about his early years during visits with an old friend at the Pine Ridge Reservation of South Dakota.
