The ancient town of Pollentia on the left bank of the Tanaro is known today as Pollenzo, a fraction of Bra in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont.
In antiquity Pollentia was in the territory of the Ligurian Statielli, Augusta Bagiennorum (modern Roncaglia in the Commune of Bene Vagienna) being 16km to the south.

In the evening of the bloody day, the Goths retreated from the field of battle; the entrenchments of their camp were forced, and the scene of rapine and slaughter made some atonement for the calamities which they had inflicted on the subjects of the empire.
The knowledge of their native country would have enabled them to oppose continual and insuperable obstacles to the progress of an invader; and the deficiency of the barbarians in arms as well as in discipline removed the only pretence which excuses the submission of a populous country to the inferior numbers of a veteran army.
