Battle of Kobryń was one of the battles of the Polish Defence War of 1939.
It was fought between September 14 and September 17, 1939, between the German XIX Panzer Corps of general Heinz Guderian and the improvised Polish "Kobryń" Infantry Division of colonel Adam Epler.
It was fought simultaneously to the Battle of Brześć Litewski.

The battle took place near the village of Krojanty in Pomerania (7 kilometres from the town of Chojnice) on September 1, 1939.
Polish units were engaged in battle from 0500 against elements of German 76th Infantry Regiment of 20th Motorised Division under Lt.Gen. Mauritz von Wiktorin, which operated on the left (northern) flank of XIX Panzer Corps under Gen. Heinz Guderian.
However, the sounds of the battle notified the crews of the APCs stationed nearby, and soon the Polish unit came under heavy machine gun fire.

From 17 to 20 September, the Polish Armies "Kraków" and "Lublin" were crippled at the Battle of Tomaszów Lubelski, the second largest battle of the campaign.
The city of Lwów capitulated on 22 September, and in a turn of events illustrating well this bizarre campaign, it capitulated to the Soviets, even though it had been attacked by Germans over a week earlier, in the middle of the siege, German troops were relieved by their Soviet allies.

In 15th century the forest became a property of king Władysław Jagiełło who used the forest as a food reserve for his army marching towards the Battle of Grunwald.
The reintroduction proved successful and in 1939 there were 16 wisents in the Białowieża National Park.
Two of them were from the zoological garden in Pszczyna and were direct descendants of a pair of wisents from the forest given to Duke of Pszczyna by tsar Alexander II in 1865.

Third battalion of the regiment was mobilized in March of 1939 and in July was sent to Pszczyna area to organize defenses, consequently on the September 1st this battalion was the first one to face German armored onslaught.
On September 2nd all battalions of the regiment were grouped around Pszczyna and prepared to defend that city with I battalion held in reserve.
During that fatal battle both 4th and 6th companies of the II battalion were decimated and both commanding officers were killed (Lt. Wojciech Wielgus and Lt. Bronislaw Osmelak) Germans brought later even more reinforcements and the battle started slowly turning into slaughter.
